Sameiro, lugar consagrado pela devoção ao culto de Maria, local de grande piedade.
Depois do monumento, fundou-se uma capela e depois a construção de um templo.
Mercê das esmolas dos fiéis, que ali acorrem a prestar culto a Maria - ou vão em passeio espairecer aos pés da Virgem contemplando o horizonte dilatado - mercê dessas esmolas, vai o templo, a pouco e pouco, crescendo. Branca pedra da freguesia de Pedralva e madeiras da redondeza são transportados para o cume da montanha, dados à Virgem do Sameiro.
Bens materiais, labor do seu gado, trabalho de suas mão, trabalho santo.
É sempre de festa o dia da carreada, das mais belas peregrinações que até ali se fazem: com carros enfeitados, adornados de ramos e flores, guiados por moças garridas, que vão tirados por bois pachorrentos e chocalhantes, subindo costa acima. E vão entre cantos e risos e algum inocente bailado e folguedo. Um alegre sacrifício, um louvor pratico, um tributo de amor.

The Portuguese had a brutal record in the Americas as a colonial power. The most horrendous abuses occurred in the colony of Brazil: natives were enslaved, murdered, tortured and raped in the conquest and early part of the colonial period and later they were disenfranchised and excluded from power. Today, Portugal is the Biggest Racist country that i have ever lived in. I feared for my life there and i consider myself lucky that my family got out alive! I have never lived in such poverty (Sopas dos Pobres everyday) 40% unemployment rate and 60% of the population earn less than $932 USD per month, and that’s considered Middle Class here! Within the European Union it is the worst of the worst place to live in.
The bottom line is the bulk of the People in the poor country of Portugal exist in a brainless comma that is fed by Ignorance, anti-Spanish hate, and severe Racism of pretty much everybody that isn’t Portuguese! And, Portugal started the Global Slave Trade in 1441 so it is definitely NOT a safe place for Blacks!!
